Addendum
05.11.04 (6:05 am) [edit]After escaping by jumping from hand to floor twice in a 24 hour period, we've decided to try to trade the Robovorski in for a more traditional pudgy, slow, sometimes-biting hamster. R. will not be happy, but will soon forget the one for the other hopefully.

Oh yes. We need a fat little hamster who is not so fast moving. I don't want to be getting to bed at 3am every time we get Frodo out of the cage and he escapes.

We have a fat little hamster, slow moving, and doesn't bite. Thank goodness its in Stephanie's room and we can close the door. It loves to run on it's wheel when everybody goes to sleep.

if you can get a black bear hamster, that might be better for your daughter. They are especially passive and gentle, great for kids as they don't mind being handled. We had one that lived over a year... now we have lizards, frogs and fish... not nearly as warm or fuzzy.
Good luck!
